Small Structures:

Students learn the basics of what it takes to build a building through the practice of creating a small structure. These could be kids’ playhouses, doghouses, small sheds, or something related to this. We start by drawing scaled plans showing all elevation views. We then frame the foundation and walls, while we go over proper stud spacing, nailing schedules, and material choices. Students move on to installing house wrap, siding, and roofing materials. Students tackle these projects in groups of 2-3, so a lot of what it takes to be a good teammate inevitably becomes a large point of emphasis as well.

Productions:

Productions is designed as a program for older youth who have either graduated, or are about to graduate. Youth in this program get to make a little money, and work on real-life employability skills. It tries to be more of a capstone class where students take what they have already learned and apply it to custom orders, or larger projects from people in our community. Projects could be things as small as cutting boards and signage to things as large as chairs, picnic tables, teardrop trailers, and tiny houses. If you have a request, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
